I came in on Saturday, 11/25/17 to return a purchase I had made 20 days prior at the Newport Beach store. I was immediately told by an older woman (House, A?), who I assume was the manager, that "they were not allowed" to accept returns from other stores. I was a little surprised as I had never been told that. She then had a younger sale associate by the name of Matthew help me out. Matthew was very courteous and tried his best to make this return happen, but it seemed there was some sort of glitch with their computers, which made the return a little more complicated than usual. Matthew requested help from this woman and she became very irritated with the fact the return was not going smoothly. She then said that the computer would not allow her to do this return and that it'd be best if I went to the original purchase location. I told her that I lived in Long Beach and that I didn't see the need to go back to Newport Beach for a return. Her reply: "Oh, well you should shop with us then". This return transaction went on for nearly 20-25 minutes, with the woman becoming increasingly impatient and ready to send me out the door. Finally, after being told that this was not possible, the return went through. Matthew was very apologetic for the ordeal, but the woman simply walked away and mumbled "Some of those items were final sale and should have never been returned". Funny thing is that the receipt does not state final sale on any items. I've been shopping at Lucky for NEARLY 10 YEARS and I've never encountered such poor customer service. Needless to say, this whole experience has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I was reminded why I don't shop at my local Lucky store and why I prefer to go to the Newport location. This female employee's basic human interaction leaves a lot to be desired. Matthew on the other hand, was very kind and I'm sorry he has to work next to this individual. Highly displeased with my experience today. I will think twice before returning to this location.
