  While in Miami last week, my husband and I wanted to visit a local gallery enclave and the Wynwood Arts District was recommended. We were leaving town and drove our rental car, with our luggage in the trunk, to the area. While we were having lunch at Joey's (an excellent choice), a server advised us that a car had been broken into down the street. sure enough--ours. The passenger side window had been smashed, but luckily we had not left anything inside the car. The trunk was not targeted and we had carried our laptops inside with us. A woman from the business in front of which we were parked called the police. She wore a brace on one forearm because she had recently encountered a purse snatcher in the neighborhood and been injured. Then a woman showed up complaining that her car had been broken into and her tools stolen (she is a local art installer) in recent weeks. Suffice to say we never got to any of the galleries. We urge the utmost caution in this area of Miami.

  Dangerous Location. Great design stores. Great art studios and restaurants. DO NOT WALK alone here. DO NOT LEAVE anything in your car. Visit the area, for sure, but be extremely careful.
