  The area is known to locals as Sam Lena Park. Sam Lena Park abuts/dovetails with the environmental preserve. The preserve is a huge area of flood retention reservoirs, with riparian vegetation allowed to grow. The preserve area is encircled by a bike path of about 2 miles. I mainly visit the area on bike rides. The bike path around the riparian preserve is a link on the loop bicycle path that goes around the whole metro area. Although the outer perimeter is bound by, for example, sports complexes, a YMCA complex, a juvenile prison, a refueling area for county vehicles, and residential housing, the bike ride is a pleasant experience. Although I am not a birder, I see hawks, large wading birds, and birders enjoying such. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the upstream-most pond is a nasty mess of trash and junk around which the wading birds and ducks have to navigate. In fairness the other ponds are kept in much better shape. This week they were pumping out the upstream pond. I hope that means they're going to clean the junk out.

  Great place for birding, walking, jogging, biking, etc. Also a nice place for a little picnic.

  Kind of hidden area. Great path for a walk or run, about 2.2 miles long. Small park for sports and little birthday gathering.
