We hired John on 8/29/16 to do some exterior (contract #1,) and interior for 1 room (contract #2.) In just a few days while we were out of town, almost all the exterior was completed and we are very happy with their cleanliness, efficiency, and the finished product (replacing a part of the fascia, repainting the whole fascia, stacks on the roof, and a few pillars in the backyard.) He even moved the mail into our garage everyday which was greatly appreciated. As for the interior, he said he wanted do it all himself. It was very slow going at first since he came up with reasons why he couldn't show up on planned days. We also learned to consistently expect him 2-3 hours after the time discussed. He is also very long winded which is why he's so personable, but this also aided in prolonging the progress as well. We sometimes would even try to avoid contact with him so he could be more focused on his work. Once he included his son to help, the pace started to pick up. I will say he really knows what he's doing when it comes to fishing wires through walls, patching, moulding, and painting. Although the pace was very frustrating, we were extremely impressed with how the room looked towards the end of the job. We couldn't even find one flaw. He suggested to move our tv to the brick wall, over the fireplace. After discussing extra material cost including a new mantle, and labor for wiring through the brick, installing the tv mount, and installing/painting the mantle, we agreed to contract #3. We made it very clear that we wanted the tv as low as possible, and to not be at ceiling level. In the last minute, he explained there were certain restrictions for the mantle he got for us, and had to change the distance from the fireplace, causing it to be higher than we wanted. Both him and my dad discussed the placement of the tv mount, and both agreed where it should go. The tv was not yet placed on the mount that John installed when he left, because my dad told him he would take care of that later. When we tried to install the tv, the contract had already been completed, paid for, and signed on 9/25/16. The mount was placed too close to the mantle, and the tv couldn't fit. We had to redo his work by changing the mount's location and had to place it as high as possible just so it could fit above the mantle. It looked horrible, caused our necks to ache, and was exactly what we said we didn't want. Unfortunately, that wasn't realized until after John left. I texted him on Tuesday, 9/27/16, to explain our concerns. He said that it's important for him that we're satisfied and wanted to know what he could do to make things right. He agreed to come by and discuss in person what can be done, but said he couldn't make it until "later that week" since he claimed he was sick. 6 days later, I explained we replaced both the mantle & tv mount to better suit our needs. I also said there was just one speaker wire that we needed redone with minimal patch/paint (if any,) hoping he would at least help with that. 3 days later, he said he was still sick, but should be available the following week to "rectify the situation". 6 days later, I asked if he felt better. The next day, he responded with the same excuse ("sick") and said he'd be available the following Monday. After not hearing from him, the following Wednesday, 10/21/16, I texted him again and said it was my last ditch effort to reach out. I asked him to stop leaving me hanging, and either follow through with a set date/time, or to tell me he no longer wished to rectify the situation. It has been 16 days since I sent that message, and I have yet to receive a response. We were so impressed with his skills and workmanship on 75% of the job he did for us. It is an utter shame that he chose to leave us hanging on the last part of our project. Had we known that the measurements were off, we would have never cashed him out on the contract. Because he wasn't true to his word and left us hanging, it has completely tainted our experience with John. I do not recommend him.
