::While looking for a place to stay while my daughter visited Harvard, I came across the Irving House. Rachel and Zoia were such a joy to talk to. This was my first Bed and Breakfast experience. The atmosphere was very inviting and relaxing. The walk to the Campus was really convenient. We had a medium size car and that worked fine for their parking. A SUV would really crowd the parking. The breakfast was of diverse choices and you basically helped yourself from 7-10. O yeah cookies and coffee all afternoon. Great Experience.

::Pros Good location for Harvard Friendly, helpful, staff Clean, well-maintained rooms Ample, varied, breakfast Cons You have to run the shower for a few minutes before the water becomes hot None of the coffees available at breakfast were to my taste, or that of my several travelling companions No elevator -- which may be a problem for some, especially with heavy luggage UPDATE, March 2018 I returned a year later and stayed a whole week. Essentially everything was more-or-less the same as last time. This time I didn't have any problem with the hot water, but I realised that there is no temperature control in the rooms, and as my room was far too warm for my liking I had to keep the window open -- even though there was thick snow outside! I've added some more photos.

::I came to the Irving House completely by accident, and now I'm devastated to be leaving. This is a wonderfully busy little place, perfectly tucked away from the largess of Harvard, while teeming with its own helpful and quirky staff. Room 314 and its access to the fire escape offers the best bird's eye view of residential Cambridge, and its tidy bathroom and unused but perfect spare Murphy bed quickly became the spot that I wanted to stay in the most. This is an ideal inn, and I'm so happy to have lucked into it.
