  Had a wonderful time at this restaurant for our wedding anniversary. My husband mentioned he noted it was our anniversary at reservation. Other restaurants seem to treat us extra special on our anniversary in the past but we didn't get anything out the ordinary here, though customer service was still wonderful, and we did get a military discount which was a pleasant surprise. Reservations were easy to make and modify online , staff was very sweet and professional. View was absolutely amazing of course considering the location, and everything came out nicely. I thought the food was pretty good but nothing that knocked my socks off. It's been years since I've been to Il Fornaio, but it seems as the food menu has become a bit more simplified, so I had higher expectations for quality and flavor with that being the case. Nothing bad by any stretch of the imagination, but I've had better Italian at other places in San Diego. I would probably still recommend this place for tourists wanting a restaurant with a sophisticated, yet not pretentious feel, with an amazing view of San Diego.

  This is a nice Italian Restaurant and Clarissa is a great waitress. However, the restaurant does need some organizational and service training. When they seated us, it was happy hour, but they didn't give us Happy Hour menus. We ordered our drinks and meals, only to find out that if we had ordered from the Happy Hour menu, it would have been much less. So we cancelled our order and then ordered the same food at a lower price from the Happy Hour menu that Clarissa brought us. Also, while we were there, we saw 3 tables complaining to the manager about issues - we didn't hear what they were, but we could tell the patrons weren't happy about something. Overall the food was OK - it's difficult to screw up pasta... Nice views and nice patio on a warm afternoon.

  The food was amazing! Had the pleasure of dining there with some friends. We sat outside on the patio and I must say we had a spectacular view of Downtown San Diego! The wait staff was very friendly and had great reccomendations on food choices, my steak was over the top! My friends and I keep talking about how delicious my steak was! They have a great wine selection and ambience is great for all occasions, especially when you want to have elegant dining! Reservations needed for inside, however, I totally recommend the outside patio, breathtaking! Will make it a go to for when I'm in SD again! Cheers!

  Excellent ambiance and food. Very friendly staff. Excellent service. Great menu. We love going there for special events but also a great place to frequent anytime. It is an upscale restaurant.We frequent it coming from Escondido.

  We had our son's rehearsal luncheon here in February. Lorri Dunn was very thorough. Making sure every detail was taken care of. The wait staff was very attentive and easily accommodated our unexpected late arrivals. The food was delicious and the views of the bay are spectacular. You must try the pancetta wrapped scallops!
