::Drive 106 miles plus tolls -to stay after Boston-VAMC -JP booked my stay. Arrived. Denied. Drive back 106 miles. I guess I won't be at that 0800 appointment unless I am reimbursed for the fuel ($50) and tolls ($5.40) in BOTH directions! To make this appointment - that's 426 miles, $100 in fuel, and $10.80 for tolls!! And yes, I have proof!!!

::My wife and I stayed at Huntington House for a recent trip to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The VA put us up since her cancer doctor is 250 miles from home. At first, we were a little apprehensive about our stay since it had been arranged last mine, and while our social worker was on top of it, the Boston VA staff seemed not overly concerned with details or keeping us updated about our stay. Our apprehension and fears were validated when we arrived after hours and had no instructions on where to find keys, entry, or whether we had been assigned a room. With construction occupying most of the building, it was pure hit-and-miss finding our way around. It was not the best situation for a cancer patient just wanting a warm bed.... However, once we were settled the accommodations were slightly better than we had imagined. The room was spacious with a full and twin bed. Luckily we had brought a blanket because linens were sparse. We had brought towels, too, but discovered that towels had been left for us. A refrigerator in the room was helpful and a Whole Foods within walking distance allowed us to maintain our drinks and healthy snacks during our stay. For meals, there's plenty to choose from around the Whole Foods, and the canteen is open to Huntington House guests. There's a community kitchen for preparing meals, too. It's not the Homewood Suites, but for Veterans having to travel for care, Huntington House is a safe, clean, and comfortable option...if they can get their communications issues squared away.

::Bed to small for wife and I absolutely no one to help you after 4pm. Beds are extremely hard. Bathroom heater about rusted off wall. Sleep not really. TV was like watching something blurry with or without your glasses. The entire place needs serious help.

::It's free with a consult request from a VA doctor. I arrived after check-in so had to cross the circle to the front door of the hospital to get my key card that opens the front door and my room. This place has a full shared kitchen, TV room and a vending machine room for drinks and snacks. My room was just like a hotel room. It comes complete with linens including towels etc. Also a TV, phone and alarm clock. The bed is VERY firm and I had to climb up into it because it's so high off the floor. My only complaint was that it was pretty cold and I couldn't figure out where the heat control was. But, a very great place to overnight in when you have a early appointment the next day.

::Our room was spotless. Very comfortable beds , nice size bathroom. T.V. in each room plus a larger one in common area. Common kitchen has some dishes and pots and pans. Missing measuring spoons and measuring cups. Very well kept. Washer and dryer avaible for no charge. Wonderful benefit for veterans and spouses when needing medical at the VA.
