My first time using a tax preparation service and I will never return to H&R Block. I made an appointment for April 4th and was assigned to Genevieve Whiting. I didn't have all my forms, so I emailed them to her that day. No confirmation or acknowledgement. I called on April 5th to confirm she had everything and she told me she accidentally deleted my email, but would get an IT guy to help retrieve it. I re-sent my email to her anyway. No response or confirmation. Tax day comes and no response or confirmation that my return was filed. I called and the general line tells me they won't patch me through to Genevieve because tax day is busy, but I can make an appointment. I was out of town on a business trip and simply needed confirmation. I receive a voicemail from Genevieve later that evening asking for my move-in date from the prior year. She is asking for more information ON TAX DAY. When I call back, I am told that Genevieve is gone for the year and my return was never filed. I gave the manager my move-in date over the phone. Also, Genevieve quoted me that my return would cost $150, when it's really $300, and I am now told that I will have to come into the office to pay when Genevieve told me the payment would be deducted from my refund. When I come into pay, the manager again asks me all the information I already gave her over the phone. The manager took off $48 for one state, but it is now April 25th, and my return has NOT YET BEEN FILED. My state taxes have still not been completed. This has been the worst customer service experience of my life. DO NOT EVER USE H&R BLOCK. Use Turbo Tax or go to another company. DO NOT EVER USE H & R BLOCK.

Please use turbo tax instead! I came here twice because I couldn't find the form I needed on an online system because I had a very specific work situation. 1) First year: I was given an estimate over the phone and was charged double that in person and the agent (who was a manager) was not aware of certain tax credits. I had to ask him to look into it so we could add it and he had to ask a coworker what it was even though it's pretty commonly known for DC residents. 2) Second year: I returned because all my info was saved through the system and expected it to be easier the second time. The agent couldn't type/use computer well. I was sat in a cubicle and asked to print my own things off because she couldn't print and also caught several typos she entered in her system. I must have missed one of her typos because I got a letter from the DC gov with a corrected statement so my refund was actually way lower than what was calculated at H&R block because she entered numbers in the wrong boxes. I had to call three times to ask someone about it and was eventually told to call a different branch and then was asked 'well who do you owe?' Extremely disappointed that I wasted $300 on this service! I should have just risked using the wrong form on turbo tax and probably would have had a better chance of entering my info more accurately.

Do not use the online scheduler. I showed up at the time and place in the email, only to not be in their system. They had no receptionist and there was no manager to talk through it with. One of their advisors was fielding people. Clearly a place with its issues. Avoid if possible. Don't expect anything from calling corporate either.

Worst service I have ever received by a tax office. Not saying that all H & R Block offices are not good. Just this particular office. Save yourself the stress, go somewhere else.

H&R Block claims to make your taxes stress-free but our experience with them has been one of the most stressful experiences we ever had to go through. When my wife and I had our taxes done here, we were told that we're all set and that H&R Block will send our tax returns to the authorities. 6 months later, when we checked why we didn't receive our federal tax refund yet, we learned that H&R NEVER SENT OUR TAX RETURNS! We had to go back to H&R Block and do our taxes again - just 2 weeks before the final IRS deadline to send in tax returns. When doing our tax return again, we also learned that the person who originally prepared our taxes, DID THEM WRONG and that if they were to be sent in, the mistake would have cost us over $500 in our tax refund. Throughout the whole ordeal, we were never contacted by a manager who tried to help us, we had to work VERY hard to extract any help from H&R Block. Throughout every single step of the way, we did not feel like H&R Block as a whole cared about us AT ALL. The workers at this branch constantly bashed corporate and their managers in front of us, saying that they need more staff but no one up the chain truly cares. We will never, under any circumstances, work with H&R Block again. By the way, we have yet to receive any refund or compensation from H&R Block. As mentioned, it just seems like they don't care.
