The hotel gives has a true 'Shinning' ambience. Its creepy awesome. The staff was friendly and attentive. The view outside is surprising.. amist the beautiful architecture and rich history the streets are lined with homeless drug addicts. It was an experience that in some ways I appreciate, I would stay at the hotel again.

Hotel was nice, but a bit worn. Rooms were clean but could use a bit of maintenance. Shower handle required some messing with in order to work. Over all decent. There are many homeless / addicts in the area, but they keep to themselves and don't bother anyone.

Great hotel. Old time feel but with modern touch. Close to the Bill Graham. Rooms are nice. Bed was a tad stiff but wasn't too bad. Will be coming back to stay at this hotel for more SF events.

Was a bit apprehensive about staying here after reading all the reviews. This place was established in 1916 - things were different back then. As long as you understand that, then consider expectations managed. It is grand overall but rooms are small, which is how they have 460+ of them. Yes, the area is littered with homeless but also police foot patrols and private security. Convenient location to hop the bus, BART, etc. plenty of dining options nearby. Would suggest a higher floor just to avoid some of the street noise. Overall, a pleasant experience and reasonable place to stay in the city.

The only staff that were nice was house keeping, the rest were rude and didn't want to help. Its a good thing I brought a playpen for my 2 year old to sleep in because they ran out of cribs. It smelled like pee outside the hotel and homeless people were everywhere! It is very out dated and the outlets were useless to charge anything. The rug was very dirty, so I had my family wear socks and shoes until they went to bed and the beds were bumpy and uncomfortable. No mini fridge and microwave! The shower pressure was horrible! Not worth the $400 we spent to stay there. I'm going to pay the $100 more next time at a better hotel. I am never staying here again.
