There should be no need to reserves a "quiet room" at a library. Libraries are supposed to be quiet spaces. If you can't establish and enforce this norm, you are violating tax payer expectations and should lose public funding. Security is an issue here as well. Hire people who have the package to enfprce norms of quiet, respect and safety. I for one, will never support increasing fhnding for Minneapolis Public Libraries. They're loud, unsafe dens of tacky behavior. Staff are worthless and spineless. THIS IS A LIBRARY, NOT A PLY GROUP. Join a play group or play somewhere else. AND THE LOUD TEENS ARE NOT IN STAGES OF EARLY LITERACY. BABIES AND TODDLERS ARE IN THIS STAGE. GO TO PRESCHOOL, DAYCARE OR HAVE A SPECIAL ROOM FOR THIS. Loud teens are not in the stages of early literacy by the way. No support from me for yhe public libraries. And theft isn't play. You're an example ofbthe employee problem. Namby pamby enabling of garbage behavior.

Nice library, free parking, afternoon kids activities and good selection for it's size.

Have been there once since having moved in the neighborhood, I think the staff was very helpful. It was clean, and the environment was nice ! Going back again today ! Location is good for me to walk to. But is on a bus line. They seem to have a lot to offer there.

On Friday, August 4, 2017, my Smart phone, Aristo was stolen at this Library. And the people of this Library treated me as if I was making a big deal out of nothing. They treated the matter as no big deal. They were of no help to me! I'd just purchased the phone brand new on July 11, 2017. This was my first time ever charging it in the public. While the phone was being charged, two (2) young girls walked up, unplugged the phone from the charger, and were walking away. As they were walking away, I SCREAMED OUT LOUD and said "somebody stop those girls. They stole my phone!" I continued with the LOUD statement over and over. But no one helped. As the scream intensified, the girls went from walking to running. They ran out of the Library. I could not run after them. I had severe knee pains that day and was wearing immobilizer. I was very surprised to see that not a single person at the entire Library cared enough to intervene. The girls escaped! I asked the Librarian "where's the Security?" She responded, "I don't know." I went outside of the Library looking for the Security Officer. When I found him and reported the case to him, his response was that 'he wasn't there. He did not see anything. And the children are minors. Therefore, the police can't do anything either.' So I used the phone at the desk and called 911 myself. This was about 5pm and the Library was closing. I sat at the bench outside of the Library; waiting for the Police to arrive. As I sat there, some people who were coming out of the Library said to me, "that's too bad what those girls did to you." Where were these people when I was screaming for help? They all pretended they didn't hear me. How appalling!!! Everybody left. I waited for the police, but the police was a no show. At 6:05pm, I drove to the 5th Precinct Police Station and filed a report. Be extremely vigilant while you are at the Hosmer Library. Don't trust anyone around you, including children. You won't get much help from the Staff nor its' Security Officer who's often NEVER around.
