This place was quite good. They serve food all day, but I visited for breakfast. I had fried chicken and waffles, which was an excellent choice. The checked was crisp on the outside and still juicy and tender inside. The waffles were savory, not sweet. Great together and with the bourbon syrup. They also had pretty good black coffee. The space is comfortable with a welcoming atmosphere. The service alittle slow and disjointed the morning I visited, but someone was being trained which seemed like a decent explanation. The food and atmosphere more than made up for the service. You should definitely give this place a try. Your stomach and taste buds will thank you.

Had an early dinner at 5:30 on a Tuesday. Restaurant was practically empty. I ordered shrimp and grits and a side of collard greens. Service was great and food was seriously sublime. I wanted a spoon for the greens pot liquor. Shrimp & grits very tasty had 4 jumbo shrimp, could have had 2 more though. Bathroom nasty and restaurant smelled funny.

Small portions of typical soul food. Nice decor. Julep cocktail for brunch is not minty and overly strong; stick to the mimosas. One gender neutral restroom upstairs and more stalls in the basement. Service was friendly, but the food was very unsatisfying. Biscuits are on warm side but they gave barely enough gravy for two in biscuits and gravy entree. Likely won’t return.

My family and I went here recently for breakfast and the food was great. We all liked our meals, service, and atmosphere. The location is convenient to many local attractions such as the Smithsonian and National Archives. Wish we had more time to go back for a dinner or brunch. Will definitely go back on next trip to DC.

Excellent chicken! Went for brunch with my wife and we had chicken and biscuits and chicken and waffles. Her sausage gravy was delicious and the chicken was fried perfectly. My waffle was slightly crispy outside, soft and magnificent inside, and still porous enough to saturate with an appropriate amount of maple syrup (which was great in the chicken, too). Everything was tasty and it was a nice experience all around. I'll definitely go back for happy hour and get some chicken cracklings and to try their deviled eggs.
