  Sugarloaf Mountain is just north of Breakneck Ridge. Some hikers on Breakneck Ridge extend their hike to Sugarloaf Mountain, rather than the much more popular and shorter white trail to red trail to yellow trail route. A less popular spot but offers a beautiful view of the northern Hudson Highlands and the surrounding area and is one of my favorite viewpoints of the Hudson Highlands. The gnarled tree is also a very special one worth viewing. I just wish hikers would respect the tree and stop standing on it. The hike is a moderate one but gets very strenuous as you ascend to the summit. Takes about 45 minutes to an hour to reach the viewpoint depending on your pace if you start the hike from Route 9D. Just follow the yellow trail markers to the viewpoint then follow it back to where you started.
