    I joined this gym super excited and signed up for 3 mos personal training In January (or 4 60 min sessions per month). So, I had some personal things come up and I was not going to able to use my last 4 ($70 each)by the date of April 15. I wanted to hold my last 4 sessions and then restart in May. I brought this to donna's attention the last week of March, she needed to speak to Jeff (the owner). Now, i am not thinking this was not going to be issue since the owner can clearly do anything for his clients. After all, i signed up for $39.99 a month plus 12 personal training sessions so this isn't exactly cheap. Shortly after, i got a call from trainer saying Jeff said that if i dont use my training sessions within the contracted time i will lose them...essentially throwing away $280. Of course, i wanted to speak with him and he was gone. Next day i called the gym, the front desk asked who was calling (i asked for jeff), i told them who i was and what i wanted...I then hear jeff say "i dont want to f'n talk to her".....so he gets on the phone and i told him he didn't need to speak to me if it was a problem. He ignored my comment and continued to tell me he CAN NOT modify my contract regardless of the reason but if he did it would be a one time courtesy. he would need to consult with my trainer the next day. Next day he calls me and put me on speaker with my trainer there.....he proceeds to tell me that he just CAN'T change my contract and if the current days didn't work for me then he could offer me a new trainer but otherwise he just didn't care. i didn't want a new trainer and if my trainer was not available then I wanted another female trainer which he was not able to offer me at that time. I then asked him why i would want to ever go back there if he was not willing to work with me during a time when I had some personal things come up and really just needed an extension of 4 weeks without losing my sessions. I was not even asking for a refund, just a little more time to use my sessions. UNREAL. I am happy to tell anyone who will listen about this terrible experience. I even told the owner I was not happy with this outcome and again he did not seem to be bothered that this was extremely unacceptable to me. I really thought that this was going to be a great experience and a new home. Very very disappointed. If you want to go in and do your own thing without any needed instruction and just need equipment and a place to work out, then i will say this should be acceptable as long as you do not need any assistance from the owners. It seems that $$$ is the driving force and not the members. side note: the sauna in the ladies locker room only worked half the time, the renovations and small group classes were supposed to be done (as i was told before April) and that is still not done (not that i would pay one more dime at this point) and my personal biggest pet peeve was that no one is expected to wipe down equipment after each use. Now planet fitness is def not your high end gym but at least they provide spray bottles and hand towels every place you turn to clean off equipment with signs posted all over about it. Kinda grossed me out so i cleaned everything before and after each use but no one else did. I even asked about it and i was told not worry about it. Golds in Totowa needs to step up their game working with clients. Life happens and at the end of the day I would think small business owners want to do what they can to keep clients happy. Jeff failed miserably and this was not even going to cost HIM a dime to change my dates.....i can't imagine if a member had a more pressing situation that might require actual compassion. End result - i attempted to reschedule with a male trainer trying to get all my sessions in before april 15th....and as i anticipated (which is why i needed to have april off) i had to cancel my session less then 24 hours so i lost that one....I will never step foot in that place again and I caution anyone to be extremely careful about signing up for anything. BUYER BEWARE

    I usually don't write reviews, but I thought i'd warn anyone trying to join. I should have listened to the old reviews. Keep in mind this incident is under NEW MANAGEMENT. I had a year contract which was over and have been paying month to month. I'm moving so my wife and I took the right actions and canceled ahead of time(30 days). Keep in mind I joined under old management which I had no problems with for the most part. They did lie about some things about the membership - but this is no way any fault of NEW OWNERSHIP, so I won't mention the lies. I was told we have to pay for October, fine by me I paid right there and there(my mistake...). I go into workout on a Saturday and they tell me my account is canceled. I tell them I paid for October and was told to talk to the owner. I've called 3 times, and so has my wife to no avail. NO RESPONSE. They've basically stolen a month's worth of membership from my wife and I and there's no recourse. That's fine I hope they need it more than I do. I lookout and support family owned small businesses, I do not recommend this one. About the gym: People are nice Staff is friendly(for the most part) Machines are okay, not as new and nice as other gyms in the area Gym can be crowded - weights are all over the place half the time which is annoying - instead of standing around the staff could help with putting weights in the right spot like other gyms I frequent. Locker rooms can use a refresh, they smell terribly and look like they are from the 90s. My advice to you - get everything in writing. Don't sign any contract without reading it. If they offer any other service, have them write it on the contract. Don't give them your Social Security Number.
