I am thrilled with my engagement ring from Gary Swank Jewelers. If you're like me and were looking for something unique and/or non-traditional, I highly recommend this shop. After countless hours online and visits to multiple jewelry stores with no luck, I was so relieved to find a place with not just one item I loved, but enough of them that I had a hard time deciding which of the beautiful, unique pieces to pick. I'm very happy with my ring, and with the band as well.

Gary Swank did an excellent job creating a multi colored gold wedding ring with difficult and intricate details from original drawings. I doubt it could have been created any better anywhere else. It was done on time and at estimate. Great work!!

I went to Gary Swank Jewelers to have a custom designed wedding set made. The ring was beautiful until it wasn't. I always knew when I got married exactly what I wanted my wedding ring set to look like. I didn't work with Gary Swank himself but with a younger man who might have been his son or nephew. The set he designed was perfect. It was designed for the engagement ring to fit to the wedding band. We left them as two separate rings until the wedding ceremony when my new husband slid it on my finger. After the wedding we took it back in as agreed to have the 2 rings soldered together which was included in the original amount we paid. When I picked it up it seemed like there was too small of an area where the rings were attached. I always wondered if it would hold. Well, after 4 years it came apart. It took me about a year to get around to going to downtown Portland to have them look at it. I assumed since they designed and made the ring they would stand by their work and re-solder it using more material so it would hold this time. I believe the older gentleman my husband and I talked to was Gary Swank. He said he couldn't do anything about it and wanted to know if I could just wear it that way. Well, um no. I showed him how It flops around and clangs and downright drives me batty. He finally said he could try to fix it but it wouldn't last. We told him to go ahead and do it. He then told us it would be $150. My husband and I were both shocked that they would want that much when it was their own work. Paying for the materials would have been acceptable but he wanted to charge us the same as anyone off the street to repair what was done wrong in the first place. We had previously taken it in to a different jeweler closer to home just to see how much they'd ask for it to save us a trip downtown. The other jeweler told us they would have used a lot more gold and not only tack it together along the back but in two small places on the front so it would stay together nicely. They only wanted $142 and they weren't the original makers. I'm very upset. I'm not going to have Gary Swank Jewelers ever do anything for me again and will be taking my ring to a different jeweler to fix and paying the money. Below is a photo of the broken ring. You can see it does not have heavy wear.

I AM SO SORRY I EVER DID BUSINESS WITH GARY SWANK JEWELERS Gary Swank designed and made my wife’s wedding set. Less than four years later the wedding band and engagement ring had come apart. We took her ring to another jeweler who showed us how poor the original solder job had been done. They showed us how it should have been soldered, and quoted a price of $142 to repair the ring. Since I figured that Gary Swank would repair their own work, we waited and eventually made the trek downtown to show them the problem. Unfortunately it didn’t quite go like I thought it would. First we were told that we should just leave it that way. Then we were told that it was the “best they could do”, and if we got it re-soldered that it would eventually break again. Finally I said to just go ahead and solder it and hope it stays. At that point I was quoted the price of $150! More than the other jeweler who said they would repair it the correct way! Don’t be a fool like me. There are hundreds of jewelers in the Portland metro area, and you can go to anyone you want. Don’t overpay for shoddy jewelry (especially a wedding ring!). Go to a reputable business who will do a good job and stand by their work. __________________________________ Edit: The response from the owner below is absurd. Nobody walks into a store and says such a thing. The ring did not have “heavy wear” (and how would they know what sort of wear it had anyway?). It is not common for wedding rings to come apart in such a short span of time (have you ever heard of that?). But most importantly, by responding to my post the owner is making my point for me. They would rather bicker and fight than make sure their customers are happy with their jewelry. Is that the sort of jeweler you want?

Called to see if they do custom work because it says on google "customs wedding rings in a relaxed space" A women answered, I asked if they do custom designs she said not usually- it depends on the project. I said- so you don't do custom work? She informed me they don't. Update your information.
