  I really love Gateway Fred Meyer because it's one of the larger ones in Portland. Their Produce is most excellent as well as their Meat Department.. It's the Only place I shop for both. ..I do love their Home Section too... I've bought many items from there from a Set of Dishes to just a Bowl. From a Mr. Coffee to a Can Opener! I always know whatever I'm looking for be it for Food, Home or Anything, I can find it at Gateway Fred Meyer! I Prefer Gateway Fred Meyer! My Bank is there too, Chase Bank! So is Starbucks! Grab a Frappocino, stop at the Bank and Go Shopping! The staff are Friendly, Helpful and Knowledgeable and will physically take you to where you need to go for that special item you're looking for. I like that. That's Good Customer Service!! Plus it's right off the Max Line at Gateway Transit Center. Blue, Red and Green all stop there! I love my favorite Fred Meyer Store!

  Great location, and once I visited a few times, I got the layout and can find almost anything. I rate low, however, because recently they've added cameras and screens to a number of aisles. I get why this is necessary, but having the damn thing chime loudly every few seconds whenever I'm in the aisle only makes me shop elsewhere for the goods that are under such close scrutiny. I'd love to be able to just browse and make my choices in peace, instead of listening to the grating noise of a chime reminding me that I'm being watched. I'm doing nothing wrong, so why should I care? Turn the chime off, please. I'm sure anybody who intends to shoplift is well aware of the fact they're on camera from the moment they enter this store. Add to this the fact that I have never seen less than a 15 minute wait at customer service, and my purchases at Fred Meyer are severely limited. The staff is not at fault here, let me be clear. This is only the fault of management

  I use to love this location. Pharmacy staff is friendly and helpful. They have a wonderful selection, and lots of high quality fresh food. Multiple entrances even. I've stopped loving it because it has become the definition of ghetto. The bathroom looks like something you'd find in a beat up greyhound stop in the middle of the desert. The doors lock and close with duct tape, the toilet paper sits on the floor and the seats are stained. The sink situation isn't any better. Every entrance also now feels like entering a high school in a high crime area.

  This store is kept clean and well-stocked with quality goods, but there is a very visible security force there. They also have parking spaces dedicated to police parking. With those, and its close proximity to the transit center, my guess is that crime is a problem there. I've never had a problem myself.

  Fred Meyer is great. Is is as good as Costco or WinCo? That's a tough question. I have no quality difference from other stores compared to Fred Meyer, all is fine for me. Fred Meyer is a little more expensive than other stores, so naturally it will come below some other stores. So yes, I would go to Fred Meyer. But if there is a Costco across the street, it's better to go there.
