  We had an excellent experience with John at Ely Stokes! He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He took his time to get the job done right and explained to me what he found. It's a messy job and I have little kids so I really appreciated how well he cleaned up after he was done. I would recommend John at Ely Stokes!

  Their technician quickly diagnosed my chimney problem during an initial visit. The work was done quickly and they left a clean work area which I really appreciated. They seem to need some help in the office with customer communications, getting quotes delivered, etc. but the work done at my home was great.

  Nice people presale, no customer service post sale if problems occur. I quit wanting to deal with my wood burning fireplace and decided I wanted gas logs and went to Eli Stokes’ store. I left them top reviews as they scheduled the work, and their people and sub-contractor seemed pleasant and efficient. Then the device quit working in less than 2 weeks, they tried to fix it 5 weeks later, it failed again, and they changed their story about what was wrong. I paid $2,543.75 for logs where, if I wish to use them, I must crawl on the floor, dismantle the logs, wipe down around the pilot, relight and reassemble every few days. I asked them what’s wrong but they will not even respond to my e-mails now they have cashed my checks.

  Paul came out to our hundred-year-old Irvington home a couple months ago (I've been meaning to write him a review on here and only just now getting around to it). He arrived early, but patiently waited in the driveway until closer to the appointment time just in case I wasn't ready for him. He was very kind and cordial--at ease (and very patient and friendly) with our curious cats who wanted to explore all his fancy tools. He took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly, and was very conscientious of keeping my home clean. He worked quickly and efficiently to clean out the fireplace, and left no mess whatsoever. He then inspected the chimney and walked me through what he was noticing. The camera they use is much higher quality than what I had expected. Even I could tell where there were obvious problems on the inside of the chimney. We also needed a topper for the chimney to stop rain from coming in. When all was said and done, he offered to give me a quote for the repair to the inside of the chimney (which I was happy to have), and recommended if I do have the repair done to hold off on getting a topper for the chimney since they would install it then anyway (save about $150 doing it that way, if I remember correctly). When he was finished, there was not a speck of soot or ash anywhere! Before he left, I asked a couple questions about the exterior of the chimney, and he offered to climb up and take a look at it. I was so grateful that he was willing to do that for me, because I'm not sure it was part of the inspection, and I had already paid for his service. Plus, our roof is not the easiest to climb up to. But he happily did anyway, and came back with pictures of a worn chimney top with missing bricks! He offered to write up another estimate for the outside repair, and I told him I didn't want to keep him from his next appointment. Later that evening, he sent me the email to both estimates along with the pictures he'd taken of the damage to the interior and exterior, which was incredibly helpful. I would highly recommend this service, especially if Paul is your chimney sweep!

  I've used Ely Stokes for about 5 years - they do my annual Fall chimney inspection and cleaning. They are always on time, professional and efficient. Zach just came out about a week ago and he was extremely careful with my decorations near the fireplace, moving them carefully before beginning (I probably should have done this ahead of time, but forgot). He was quick, thorough, professional and very nice. He pointed out a couple of areas of concern that we should keep an eye on in the hearth, which I appreciated. I will continue to use Ely Stokes for regular maintenance and if I need repairs or other work, they'll be the ones I call - their prices are good and so is the work they do.
