  This has got to be one of the most controversial monopolies in our great state. How in the world a company can bully their customers with non negotiable billing terms and mandatory hardware change outs like the smart meters and there not be protection for the customer is beyond me. I have heard so many over billing issues lately where people haven't changed a thing and their historically consistent billing jumped by hundreds, and of course if you ask DTE well... There's nothing that can be done. Also if one employee could give me an explanation as to why these "amazing" smart meters are supposed to be more efficient but I never had a prorated bill until I had one installed, then they prorated 2 months way under and hit me for 3 months at once. That meter was installed by one individual while three stood around, stood around telling me how terrible these smart meters are by the way, oh sure you can opt out... for a fee! So DTE pro rates you hitting you way too hard on some months and uses it as a way to sell their pro rating plan where you pay a flat rate every month. Well if your my parents or select few others who bought into this, your in trouble. They couldn't get pro rating right before they were set up with automatic payment, they should get it right with access to your account right? Wrong, they will just wait longer and take out the difference without asking. My poor parents had two withdrawals in a two week period for over a thousand dollars and when they contacted DTE they were informed "the pro rating was off but we can take as much as we need whenever we want per the contract" yeah... sounds about right. Bullies, crooks, con artists, they don't deserve the one star they got in this review. Buy some solar panels, vote for legislation that allows for free market power so you can buy from other companies. I get it their a large corporation, but you stay that way by making loyal customers, not shafting them at every possible turn.
