  After trying many wedding gowns at different bridal stores, I realized I liked very specific details from different gowns, but none of them fully captivated my eye. I had a very specific dress in mind and I decided to go the custom-made route. Few places make custom gowns in Dallas, TX and the ones that do are either too expensive or can’t offer good quality fabrics. I was lucky that DressMyWay had a location in town and paid them a visit. The cost to create my dream gown was not inexpensive, but fair. Ashley, the designer, was easy to work with and she sketched the dress for me and provided me with a draft of how the final product would look. The good thing about going in person is that you’re able to see and feel the fabrics that will be used and they take several fittings prior to completing the final product. My gown was ready right on time and I absolutely loved it- it was exactly what I had envisioned. Nonetheless, some alterations had to be done after it had been handed over to me since I had lost weight. Following the alterations, the dress fitted perfectly. The reason I did not rate as high it’s because of how the dress fitted the day of. After an hour or so of wearing, the corset bodice turned “lumpy” and instead of staying straight and close to my body, curves on the boning were very noticeable and could be seen on most of the pictures ☹ In addition, my dress was designed to convert into three different gowns. During the final dress fitting, I noticed the detachable bottom included some type of heavy duty Velcro which glued two parts together, however, the Velcro was thick causing the skirt to be very tight on my legs and I struggled to walk. Jay and one of the new designers decided to remove the Velcro and sew some type of plastic fasteners instead, to give me more space. Unfortunately, this alteration did not work well because when I switched over to the “Mermaid Type” of gown, the detachable bottom kept falling with any slight movement which made it uncomfortable to wear. If the thickness of the Velcro had been taken into consideration when the dress was being made, then it would have probably worked. I appreciated the fact that they included some straps that gave the gown a complete different look and was also given the opportunity to win a free veil. Nevertheless, I wished the gown had fit as intended because it was truly beautiful. Overall, the gown was uncomfortable to wear and I will forever be reminded of the poor fit in all of our pictures ☹
