So I just sent my dogs in to be groomed. They told me that all three were matted, which is not true. The Wheaten was matted badly the Kerry Blue and Poodle were not as my husband painstakingly brushed both our before delivering (never had to do that before a grooming!). Nancy told me that "You just walked out last time you were here, before knowing that they were matted." Really? Wow. I dropped them off and you said. Nothing until now?? Over six months later? Given that ridiculous comment, my husband brushed them out before their appointment and the poodle and kerry were clear of mats-as I said, the wheaten was totally matted. I get the sneaking suspicion that the owner Nancy was framing the moment as she didn't have the time to properly groom all 3 dogs within the time frame so the mats, (that didn't exist), Will give her the license to shave them down quickly to get to the next customer. She strongly warned me that might happen having not even seen the dogs! Totally uncool. I have pedigree groomers on Long Island who have taken the dogs, even with mats, and have groomed them without moaning about it. It takes them 1.5 to 2.5 hours-to be dog-show ready—-for each dog. Let's see how long this takes. Drop off was at 1:00pm.... well they were ready at 3:20pm. 2 hours and 20 minutes for 3 dogs? Yes, that's how long it takes to shave 3 beautiful coats --completely RAW!! I will not be able to show my Kerry until next year. “Cutting them short” is totally different than shaving raw. Total cost for 3 dogs, same groomer, 2 hours 20 minutes: 365.72. I call bullish!t!! Lesson? Absolutely NEVER AGAIN!!!

Quinn's first grooming visit since I adopted him. He looks great and seemed to have a happy experience. Mama was nervous leaving him, but Quinn was fine.

This tiny groomer always has time for my two dogs to drop in and get their nails trimmed. They also have a small selection of harnesses, leashes, bags and such for sale. Next door is a terrific pet supply store as well so it's a perfect spot for knocking out your furry friends errands.

Downtown Doghouse is truly an amazing place! As the Executive Director of a local animal rescue, I was constantly looking for groomers who were willing to help clean up our dogs to make them even more adoptable. Unfortunately, I normally resorted to just poorly shaving every dog down myself until I met the owner, Nancy, about a year ago when she offered to donate expert grooming to our all of our dogs. I have brought in some dogs that were clearly never groomed and were completely matted and frightened. Every dog has turned out amazing and excited to kiss their groomers face to thank them! Downtown Doghouse is really the best!

having had a terrible experience years ago with a groomer, i am SUPER-picky about who gets to hold a razor near my dog and who gets to lock him up in a small cage for any length of time. just to give some context...i also rarely write reviews. this said, i love downtown doghouse so so so much that i am impelled to go out of my way in my free time to put them on blast about how much i love and trust them and will recommend them to anyone, even someone with a sensitive shelter dog situation. my dog needs to be very closely shorn once a year, even on his face (his eyes are prone to infection from shaggy hair if it gets dirty) and he still marches in to downtown doghouse with alacrity. please have complete peace of mind with regard to downtown doghouse. it's not even in my 'hood but it's worth the inconvenience because of how well they treat my pup. one time when i picked him up they wanted to teach me how to brush his hair properly, we got to talking about dog care and they forgot to ask me to pay them and i forgot to offer. this speaks volumes to me about how they are in this business not as business people but as people who are concerned with the welfare of animals... i tried out four other groomers before i found dd. most places, including the big stores also teach, so the students are focusing on mastery over empathy. i understand they have to learn somewhere it's just not my preference as my dog is the very teeny and sensitive runt of his litter. THANK YOU DOWNTOWN DOGHOUSE.
