  I was extremely disappointed with this service, my initial call for service was for the following - on a rainy day I can hear drops of water in my gas fireplace, and the unit would shut off after start up. I was told that they are certified chimney and that they could resolve both situations. However upon arrival they only cleaned the gas fireplace, he looked at the exhaust pipes for the fireplace in the attic and stated that it needed to be sealed - he didn't seal it. I was also told that I have a bad thermopile - which is why the unit shuts off. I get a call from his worker stating that they can't order nor install the parts needed because my unit is a gas fireplace. What a rip-off never again.

  my husband called to make an appointment to get a estamite on moving a wood stove we were told $75 just to have someone come look! (To me absolutely ridiculous) I called to cancel and when asked why I told them I found a company who isn't charging me to come and look (I actually found 2) and of course I got a ooo we can waive that (of course) so I said ok and kept the appointment. I then did some research as I had a horrible gut feeling and saw these horrible reviews. I decided to just let them come so I would have multiple quotes get an idea of what we were looking at. Well morning of appointment comes mind you it was for 8:30am 9:20am comes NO CALL NO SHOW! I'm beyond pissed how unprofessional can you be? Seriously! I have a life! I call the company and get a yes they are running behind due to the weather. And no one could call me to tell me this??? So I said don't bother sending them the of course wanted to reschedule and I said absolutely not!!! I'm always secptical on reading reviews sometimes especially if they are older so I was going to try and give it a shot see what they were like and I will say go with your gut and these reviews old or not are probably all 100% true! STAY AWAY! Give someone who appreciates your business your hard earned money!

  Stay away from this Company, He is a total rip off, he owns another company called The FirePlace Shop which sells wood/pellets stoves and fireplace accessories in Wappingers and diliberately fails inspections to steer people into buying his products to make a profit. Will smother you with his Certifications to make you gullible. This company is a rip off, the reviews don't lie, many customers and even other businesses do not recommend them due to bad experiences. They also inflate your bill and recommend unnecessary changes. Please do your research about who you choose for chimney service also know what is done on a chimney cleaning and inspection. These guys will do the bare minimum unless you tell them other wise. Dr SOOT is a rip off. DO NOT USE!!

  On Saturday November 21, 2015 a service technician came to my house to clean the dyer vent. He came to the door and I asked him to put on booties so not to track dirt onto the carpet where the dryer is located. Initially he wore them however the two trips back and forth outside to his truck and on the wet grass to check (another story) outside vent he did not wear the booties and of course he brought dirt onto the light colored carpet. No respect for ones property, this is not the first time this tech has come to my house. Now the other story! He took a ladder from inside his truck so that he can climb it to brush the lint from the outside vent. The ladder was to short. I seen he had two taller ladders on the top of his truck. I offered to help him take it off and set it up so he can brush the outside vent, he ignored me and the vent never got brushed, He said there was enough ventilation and did not complete the service but I got charged the full amount anyway. This guy is a grown man and I felt that I did not need to remind him each time to put on the booties. I doubt very much that I will use Dr. Soot again.

  Hired Dr. Soot to inspect and clean our chimney. Their technician allegedly spotted problems and showed me photos from his digital camera (was it really my chimney??). He said his office would send me a quote for the repairs. The quote included items that the technician hadn't indicated were a problem. The estimate was close to 5K. I felt very uneasy with this company and would not recommend. 12/12/2014 Update - After turning down their proposal, they sent me a revised proposal by certified mail. The new proposal claims that they are quoting me "the very minimum" that should be done. So, we're down to 3.5K. This new proposal makes me feel even more uneasy with this company. Upate - A former fireman I know suggested I call his chimney guy. His chimney guy came out, gave me an honest report on what I needed (no charge for coming out) and the total cost for everything was $1800. He even found some things that were originally not done to code and fixed those too. So, the price went from 5K to 1.8k.
