So welcoming and loving!!! Im from Connecticut originally and havent attending synagogue in many years after my grandfather passed away. I was afraid to go because my husband and the few friends ive met out in San Jose are not Jewish, so i knew i would be going by myself and not know anyone. The Rabbi, his family, and the whole congregation was so accepting when i met them that i knew i wouldn't want to go anywhere else!!!

I have been at Am Echad for 5 months, and taken my time to get to know the environment. In my first 10 weeks there I was given a Tefillin bag as a gift, and I personally saw the Rabbi go to lengths to help a homeless refugee from Turkey (whose father was Jewish) get translators, assistance and support from the local community to aid in rebuilding his life. I've rarely seen any religious organization act with such humanity to this kind of situation, and I was very moved by it. So, I don't speak lightly when I say Am Echad draws on the belief that all Jews (and all people) can have a meaningful connection to the Torah and its values, and experience the depth of a true Jewish lifestyle. The classes focus on living in a way that embodies the Torah's ideals of kindness to others, justice, and the purposefulness of every life -- of every Jew. Rabbi Menachem Levine impressed me personally with his passion for reaching out to Jews, and with the clarity of his belief in the Torah, in people, and in the values preserved by Jews for generations. He often reiterates that anyone can endow her (or his) life with sprituality and the traits that defined Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaacov. I was befriended by many people immediately, and while no two people are alike and have different opinions, I have always felt that my views were heard and respected at Am Echad. That is a rare quality I like a lot. Hope to meet you if you stop by.
