  Walking into Comstock is like walking through time. As you enter the side door you see a vintage fan that is right out of the 1800's, then you approach the bar to sit on a clawfoot bar stool as the bartender takes the time to chat you up. All adding up to create a nice experience.

  Stumbled on this place by accident and we decided to go for a drink there because it looked cool, a roaring twenties kind of bar with great interior and a nice jazzy vibe with live music. We ended up staying till closing time having had dinner there as well. They have some great cocktails but also a pretty extensive beer and wine menu. The food menu isn’t spectacular but what we had - two burgers and pasta cacio e pepe - were very decent. But the reason I’ll be coming back is that atmosphere with the live jazz band playing.

  Cool little joint. We showed up for the live music. Loved it, not too loud and still able to carry a conversation. Loved the french fries!

  I have been going to The Comstock since the time that it opened, since before I even lived in California. it is one of the best bars for cocktails that I have ever experienced. Everything they do is vintage, there are no novelty drinks with funny names, only classics and forgotten classics, and the all-important offering: The Barkeep's Whimsy, where in you can tell the bartender a mood, a favorite ingredient, a kind of drink you feel like you want, and they will come up with something for you. The atmosphere is classic Gilded Age San Francisco, with a little bit of Emperor Norton, but it's never too cute, never too twee. recently, a couple of the original bartenders have moved on, and I was worried that the experience would be lost. To the Comstock's credit those who now run the bar have maintained much of its personality, and all of its quality. it is still one of the best drinks in town, perhaps the best drink in town, if what you look for in a drink is quality. The food menu is a Hidden Gem, few people think of the Comstock as a place to eat, but I have never been disappointed by anything that they offer, and often been pleasantly surprised. Times change, but the Comstock seems to be weathering that critical transition between a beautifully rendered concept, and an established institution.

  One of my area favorites! I’d want to not recommend it so highly so I can actually find a seat next time I’m there. Staff has always been very nice to me, the cocktails and wines are high quality, and of-course the live music and vibe are the main attraction. Oh wait! -best Brussels sprouts ever, worth mentioning believe me
