Being an ex firefighter, and my brother is a fire fighter I highly respect what you do from training all the way to responding. Being a firefighter is not a job. Its a life

Clark County, City of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas Fire Departments are the best in the country!!!! I've been lucky enough to be involved in the fire service, and what I see with these departments are second to none. The City of Las Vegas Fire/Rescue holds an ISO rating of 1, the best there is, I don't know the number, but I believe only 8-10 career fire departments are rated level/class 1. Clark County was rated level 1 for years, BUT, the county I guess didn't think it was worth it and chopped large chunks out of there coverage. No more Heavy Rescue that responded to over 1000 calls per year, no more Haz-Mat company, no more Truck Company 76 in Laughlin, and other cuts I think had to do with being given a lower ISO rating. It's still hard to believe there's no Heavy Rescue with all the casinos, hotels, Interstates, new construction all over, and that just covers a small section of the County. It's also very tough to think that Laughlin is only covered by 2 Engines, and 1 Rescue!!!!! No Ladder Truck with all those hotels, let alone the houses and apartments. When I first heard that cut was made, I wasn't to sure what to think, but after spending the last 2 Christmas holidays in Laughlin, it makes no sense at all. Way to much can go wrong without the proper equipment. I'm very aware of the mutual aid agreement from Bullhead City Arizona Fire Department, they respond a ladder truck if needed for building fires, regardless how close they are, or how willing they are to respond, there city comes first, responding out of state isn't there priority. Next time you stay in Laughlin, take a look at the size and age of just the hotels your looking at or staying in and tell me how you'd feel if a ladder truck isn't responding because of budget cuts......not a good feeling at all. My comments in no way reflect against Clark County Fire Department, or any department in that respect, it's against the County Commissioners that cut items before they actually know what's cooking. Or, do they really care? It's not on the strip, so get rid of the expense. Pathetic. Here's another thing, the Jean Station is covered 24/7, but no fire truck, just a rescue!!!! That's cool, most are medical responses anyway, but, why not at the very least a Quick Attack unit? It can carry all the same medical equipment, extrication tools, but also can have a 300-500 gallon tank, and a 1000 GPM pump??? If a car fire, gras fire, even a small building fire, a mini pumper/quick attack would be a great unit in that station instead of just a rescue? I'm,surprised that hasn't been brought up or taken into consideration. I'm just thinking of a car fire video I had seen from last summer, a car had caught fire between Jean and Primm, westbound on I-15. 911 was called, and the video started. 32 minutes later Engine 65 was on scene. That is just way to long for a fire engine to respond!!!! Could you imagine a structure fire at the Primm Outlets? A Quick attack would be there in 5-6 minutes, and probably have a quick knockdown prior to Station 65 arriving!!! Just some thought!!! I love you guys and gals, one of the best departments in the world.....Keep up the great work. 2nd to NONE
