  Outstanding architectural centrepiece for the city. Very knowledgeable staff give free tours and explain how Christian Science applies biblical rules on how to heal yourself and others. Highly recommended.

  I have taken friends visiting from other countries to "tour" the Map Room known as the Maparium. Every single person has been thrilled with this experience. I myself never tire of this "view" of the world's globe from the inside out. It's absolutely fascinating, providing a perspective of the world in latitude and longitude. I am looking forward to my next visit which will probably be my fifth or sixth. I cannot imagine going to this building and passing up the opportunity to visit the Maparium!

  This is a review of Christian Science, as it is practiced today, not of the physical "Mother Church", as the Board of Directors is completely unresponsive to serious problems that have caused the drastic drop in membership, the closing of branch churches and the number of Journal-listed practitioners to fall from over 12,000 in the 1950s to less than 1,300 today. The Journal, Sentinel and Herald publications are thin shadows of their former versions, which, in the past, were thick with thoughtful metaphysical articles and testimonies of healing. I have studied Christian Science for 40 years and have the greatest respect for Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy healed many people, usually very quickly, but had difficulty training her students to duplicate her success, though many early practitioners could do so, on occasion. Today, instead of treatment that brings healing, practitioners "support" the people who turn to them, with said "support" going on for days, weeks, months or even years, often with no healing, with many practitioners expecting payment even though they failed to effect healing. (My own mother died of cancer and congestive heart failure while being treated by a practitioner.) Some practitioners will grill a prospective "patient" as to whether they are Christian Scientists, how long they have been Christian Scientists, if they are members of "The Mother Church" and a branch church, and do they read the daily Lesson, before they will agree to give "support", something Mrs. Eddy never did or advocated. Though I have had near instantaneous healing of burns, headaches, minor illnesses and, amazingly, a fractured ankle, it was never through the efforts of a practitioner. When I turned to practitioners for healing of nearsightedness having gotten to the point where I needed tri-focals (which made me nauseous), I was told things completely at odds with Mrs. Eddy's teaching, the two most bizarre being "Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just get glasses" and "Get a seeing-eye dog!" With great sadness, I, as many others have done, have resigned my membership with "The Mother Church" and will not return. Only through the revival of "instantaneous cure", as demanded by Mrs. Eddy herself, will Christian Science grow again. She warned her students about this several times, but her warning is falling on deaf ears.
