Has been in the mission to find a great bbq joint in SF for a few years. Discovered this place from Yelp. Gave it a try. I ordered the pork shoulder, collar greens, a biscuit and a beer. The biscuit is big. It is good but it gets cake feel, properly of the size. I like biscuit fluffy and light. This one is a bit on the heavy side. The pork shoulder is flat, needs some rub before cooking. Fortunately, the bbq sauce saved the meat. I threw away the collar greens. I saw ham hock in it but got no smokey favor at all. This is one of the worst collar greens I have ever had. The staff are friendly.

Absolutely top class. We had ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese and collards. Meals came with free drink, lemonade or ice tea. Was delicious! Service was excellent.

This place is wonderful. We have enjoyed everything we have tried and we try to get something different each time we go. Sit up at high or low tables. The crowd is mixed and easy going - you might come straight from work and sit next to a family with kids or group on their way to the theater. A nice selection of beer for every taste to compliment all the choices of different BBQ and sides. If you're not gluten-free definitely shell out the $5 for the over-sized biscuit and get the honey butter to go with it. It's big enough to share. The staff is always friendly and helpful and will teach first-timers to navigate their menu. Loved the choice of music. The place is upbeat but not so noisy that you can't hold a normal conversation. Parking hasnt been a problem when weve been. Not open late.

This is some of the best BBQ SF has to offer. With a couple onsite wood fire pits, the meat comes directly from the pit (which a foot behind the prep station.) This is great SF BBQ. If you are looking to compare it to Memphis or Austin or KC, don’t. For one, those places often have more heritage, more space for the pits, and I would expect the pit staff to be more experienced. That is not to say CH isn’t good, because it is good. Just comparing it to those others is a bit unfair and deserves a class of “city bbq” unto its own. Staff is very nice and accommodating. You can sit at the counter and watch them cut meat the whole time. From two previous experiences, their catering is excellent too.

Hands down favorite barbecue in SF! Amazing brisket (they call it Coca-Cola Brisket) as well as chicken (a white meat option and a dark meat option!), ribs, hot links, pork shoulder, and more, and even vegetarian options, Cornmeal-crusted Tofu and Maker's Mark Mushroom, and terrific sides (really good Pimento Mac 'n' Cheese). Brisket is my barometer and they do it RIGHT at CatHead's. People there are awesome, too -- huge shout-out to Zack and Laura!
