  This library has a warm, friendly atmosphere. After school dismissal there is a wonderful family feeling since many families fill the children's section. There are many wonderful activities in which one can participate free of charge. It is a place that really encourages reluctant readers to read. I love this library and am proud to be a patron. As for another post which objects to homeless people's presence, I learned to deal with them. It is a public library. Library staff or security deal amply with anyone who is disruptive whether or not they are homeless.

  Very nice for a library, i just dont like being stalked when i walk in and staff need to not stand over you when you say you got it and dont need help.

  Many of the patrons are apparently homeless or obviously mentally ill. They run this place. The librarians are either untrained or unwilling to deal with their disruptions. They will harass women, intimidate children, and make a flat out unpleasant experience for anyone trying to use this beautiful public space. The staff is either willfully ignorant of this behavior or tacitly encourages it, Stanford Prison Experiment-style. Sure, this is a systematic failure of our society and librarians aren't necessarily the best people to provide care for the mentally unstable but there are dozens of other public libraries in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens that are not literal danger zones for people just trying study.

  Historic architecture The library has a large, welcoming foyer and a layout similar to the Park Slope branch, with adult computers and books on one side, and children's books and literature on the other. Reference and media materials are on a canopied upper level. This library shares space with a learning group that has leased space and has separate entry points. The restroom is on the lower level. Take the staircase under the 2nd floor canopy and turn right to the door on the first left. It uses a latch lock now, and has a Koala diaper changing station. Nearby Transit: The Marcy Avenue (J)(M) station. The B44 +selectbusservice+. At Division St, the B48 and B57.

  Remember my mother taking me and my siblings here. The smell of books, the adventure of each book had on me what a great place.
