Belle Isle is a special place. If it only had the park land it would be a wonderful park. However, it has an aquarium, conservatory, Japanese Garden, Casino (not the gambling kind), come tower, amphitheater, giant slide, beautiful at deco lighthouse, ornate Fountain, golf course, and much more. It provides a green respite from the concrete jungle around it and a great view of Detroit and Windsor. There are bike lanes, low speed vehicle traffic, many picnic shelters, and a variety of landscapes. These include open field, beach, pond, and forest.

Beautiful and serene, even in the winter time. The conservatory and water fountain impressed me the most. If you avoid the rush hour when you leave or arrive, traffic isn't that much of a problem.

Been enjoying this park island my entire life! It has gone through some changes over the years, like the closing of the zoo, they somehow got rid of all the deer, the giant slide is no longer yellow lol. And there are coyotes in those woods now, so be careful! It's still absolutely gorgeous, with an amazing fountain, sweeping international views, cool exhibits and activities... And the MacArthur bridge is still charming as ever, even though they switched out the warmer lamp lights for cool blue-white led lights. The difference is noticeable, smh. For newbies just keep in mind that the city the nation has been squatting on for decades has always enjoyed this island. Its a part of what made Detroit great before it was popular to come "explore" here. Respect that.

I really enjoyed my two trips to this island. On the first trip I visited Sunset Point which in itself was well worth the visit on its own. On my second trip to the island it was snowing but absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend this location to anybody looking to get out of the city

I took my fiance here during the weekend of DEMF to get a feel for what Detroit has to offer. We walked through the aquarium and enjoyed the uniqueness of the building. We also meandered by the greenhouses and a beautiful wedding was being held as we were walking by. The amount of activities on the island is great for families to take their kids or a couple to get great romantic shots of the river. Belle Island is a great destination on your travels through Detroit I'd you haven't been.
