Bartram House Bakery was a disappointment. From the moment you walk in the door, as others have mentioned, you will be accosted by the smokey air. The display case of bakery treats will entice you, but I obviously choose poorly. My treat, the bourbon pecan bar, was cold and very, very hard on the edges, which made eating it difficult. The center, however, was tasty and more like food in consistency. Unfortunately, the dirty water they were passing off as coffee that day was perhaps the worst tasting beverage I've ever had. It was so weak I could see the bottom of my cup and tasted like cleaning solution. The one bright spot in my visit was the service. I was waited on at the counter by a man named John. He was very polite and attentive. During my time at Bartram House Bakery, I watched him attend to a family having a meal there. He returned to their table regularly and cleaned off all the other tables in the dining area. It was as if he was the only person working.

Order at the counter and they bring it out to the table. Had breakfast there and it was really good, plus a lot of delicious looking pastries. The coffee was great, and overall everything was reasonably priced. Good place to sit and get some work down.

Nice place, but the employees seem annoyed that you're there. Spend most of the time sitting with friends. Every time I come, it takes about 5 minutes for someone to notice there's a customer and come out from the back. Another five when I turn around to get cream. 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee is a bit much.
