::Holy smokes, guys! Literally... While there’s a lot to like here - ambience, level of service, attention/care for the craft- I can’t get past their signature choice to wood smoke many of their cocktails. Including their mai tai! Instead of complementing flavors and adding depth, it overpowers and comes across as slightly gimmicky. And there is little room for that at this price point. To be fair I tried some non-smoked selections, too and found them approachable but was not wowed like I’ve been at other elite cocktail joints around the world (Bar High Five, Tokyo; Arnauds or Cane&Table, NoLa). Final note is that the bar is small and tucked inside a financial building. This makes it more social than romantic, which is very Hawaiian and fine with me. But you’ll want to go elsewhere if looking for intimate conversation.

::If you love whisky this is the best bar in Honolulu for you. They have 200 to 300 different bottles of whisky and have the largest selection of Japanese whisky in Hawaii. For non whisky lovers they have amazing cocktails from classics to modern creations all made with house made mixers and fresh juices. They even make amazing cocktails with peated Scotch that very few bars would even attempt. Highly recommend making reservations as walking in might not get you seated. On two occasions I've tried walking in, got lucky once but not on the other occasion. Make reservations on their website and the staff at BLA will take great care of you.

::Amazing cocktails and wonderful service. The perfect place for a few cocktails and chat with a mate. Small and a little tricky to get in, but worth every minute you are there. Justin is the best... World class.

::Odd location but awesome little place. They have a great menu of signature cocktails and an absurd list of whiskey. Service was great and the drinks were even better. As a peaty scotch drinker, I got the “In The Soul” and it was a great drink presentation, explanation, and flavor. Highly recommend!!
