  Playing Punk and New Wave in the back ground. Carla, the owner, is one of the best hairstylists around. I travel across state lines to get my cut.

  I started getting my hair cut by Carla about 8 years ago. I won't go anywhere else, which is saying something since I live 600 miles away from Jersey City! My hair looks great for 6 or more months after Carla cuts it, and the only "styling" I have to do is wash it and sleep on it. Plus, hanging out at Balance for a few hours is food for the soul.

  My partner and I have been going to Balance for hair cuts for 10 years now. We consider everyone at the salon our friends after all that time, but the reason we keep going back is Carla's excellent customer service. My partner has a full head of hair and she always listens to his thoughts and desires before each cut, taking obvious care to give him exactly what he's hoping for; I have, well ... a lot less to work with. But that doesn't stop Carla from giving my cut just as much attention. She always gives her best so that we feel great about ourselves when we leave, and she's a very creative and talented stylist. Balance is a downtown Jersey City institution and, although we moved into Manhattan a couple of years ago, we honestly can't imagine getting our hair cut anywhere else or by anyone else.

  I LOVE Balance- they saved my hair. After getting a HORRIBLE haircut from a place down the road (they refused to fix it without charging me) I went to Balance- I live across the street and love the styles I see coming out. Figured they could save my hair/give me the cut I actually wanted. It took about an hour to undo the damage the prior place did, but the woman who cut my hair (I feel horrible- can't remember her name! Black hair, young) did a beautiful job, showed me how to style my new pixie (I am IN LOVE with it) and was super kind about the very flustered way I came into the shop. I will 100% go back any time. Can't beat this place!
