I'm hooked. I went into my first class so nervous and expecting to be so intimidated the whole time, having never really done a boxing class. I was so pleasantly surprised. John was attentive and made me feel like I belonged from the start. And let me tell you, these classes are such an awesome full body workout. I went back for the second time this week and loved it just as much. The classes are fun too! And everyone was really helpful and patient. I can't wait to bring friends next week! Definitely recommend this place.

I’ve had a really hard time finding a gym/workout I actually enjoy and want to go back to... then I found Back Bay Boxing Gym and was immediately hooked. John, the owner/ trainer there is awesome—super friendly, gives a lot of individual coaching, and has built an incredible culture. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful, it’s all partner work and the more experienced folk help the newbies learn, so it’s easy to meet people and make new friends. John also hosts social events every once in awhile to foster a community outside of the gym. As far as workout goes, it’s super high energy with the typical workout being circuit training in the beginning followed by partner work where you’re either blocking or throwing punches with some bag time. It’s amazing how quickly you catch on and improve. It’s also really improved my long distance running. Across the board, this place is awesome. Icing on the cake is that you’re supporting a local business owner as he pursues his dreams and continually reinvests into the business v throwing money at a giant corporate gym.

I have taken boxing classes all over the city of Boston, and truly have enjoyed my experience at Back Bay Boxing! Although I am only two classes in I have made a commitment to myself to go at least once a week! If you can survive the warm up you can do anything! What makes this class so great is the small class numbers. no more than 15/16 people. This makes a huge difference and that attention to detail John has on coaching is great! Keeps you excited and engaged. The partner work is also very endearing! Everyone is friendly and helpful, especially for first timers. It's not a flashy gym, but the work and sweat is real and I recommend it to anyone who wants a challenge and to feel accomplished!

I have been boxing with John at Back Bay Boxing for around 6/7 months now and I can't begin to recommend this gym enough. There really is such a sense of community at the gym and truly everyone feels welcome regardless of whether you are a newbie to exercise or an avid gym rat! John's focus on technique is definitely something that differentiates these classes from other boxing gyms in the area, and you can definitely see your technique improving when you stick with the classes. Highly recommend to anyone looking out for a new fitness class!

When you look at the value and overall experience, this is by far the best boxing gym in Boston. The difference between Back Bay Boxing and the other chain gyms is evident from your first class. Coach John Murray and his trainers are the difference. John takes a personalized approach and puts in the time necessary to help improve your technique and fundamentals. Each class is different from the warm up to the actual boxing workout and it doesn't get repetitive like at other boxing gyms. Last but not least, the workout itself is killer and you burn a lot of calories and leave the class drenched in sweat =P If you're looking to have fun, learn or improve in boxing, and get a great workout, look no further than Back Bay Boxing. John and his trainers are hands down the best in Boston!
