The ASI is always a cool mix of both modern and historical. Located in the Turnbald mansion with a modern addition, the museum strikes the right balance of preserving the Swedish historical past of Minnesota and integrating it with relevant connections to modern-day Scandinavia. They have Innovative artist exhibits, a great restaurant, and lots of interesting events. Children are welcomed and there's even a floor just for them. Plus if you're a member of The Walker Art Center you get reciprocity in your membership. I would highly recommend and afternoon spent here.

We ended up spending hours here talking with a gentleman who knew more about the institute than most people do about their own home! It's a lovely space with great stories throughout. Spend a couple minutes or a whole afternoon! Great tourist spot or weekend activity for locals!

Such a great place. I came here when I started to research my Swedish heritage. Cool exhibits and such a beautiful mansion. Every room tells a story. Great place to visit. Even Norwegians would like it.

Historic Castle in the middle of the city. Well worth seeing. Scandinavian workmanship in a French influenced style. Massive wood carved fireplace in the main hall...beautifully decorative tile stoves. The woodwork varies from Cherry to Mahogany to Bleached Walnut. I love the exterior...the copper gutters that empty into a stone lion's head. See it because you like architecture or interior decor. See it because you are Swedish. But see it once in your life. If you want a treat at the restaurant Fika...go early as they run out later in the day. Good coffee, but you can get wine too.
