  Don't wasted your money and time with this crappy bank, I went to change some money and the teller made a face like she never seen a few thousands of dollars,he and her manager were flagging me for packet change , I do this all the time in chase and city bank, don't put your money in this broke and bank you made loose your money when they broke and bankrupt.

  Awful I was given a large sum of money from my father who has a bank account with amalgamated for over 40 years, and I deposited in my bank and was told it had already cleared, next day amalgamated declined payment and I had a large negative. I had to run around the next day trying to get things straight. I had numerous bank fees. I called amalgamated and they claim they could not get in touch with my father to verify the check, my dad had written checks before. When I called the bank I was told that they thought it was fraud. Then the manager wanted to talk to my father to verify who he was the "mamager" of the coop city branch was ugly to my dad, he is 91 and did not deserve the treatment she gave him, when their connection was interrupted and he called right back (2 min), she would not get back on the phone to finish the inquisition she was giving him, instead she put some else on that had to keep putting us on hold to go talk to her. I never had such a terrible experience with a bank in my life. They also yanked my brothers check telling both of us that they would send the check back so we could redeposit it, for me that was 2 weeks ago and no check, my brother a week. OUTRAGEOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE! Get people who know what their doing. awful

  Amalgamated bank does seem more people oriented than bigger banks, with more accessible accounts (low minimums without fees). The negative is that there aren't many locations, but if it's convenient enough for you, it seems like a good choice.

  No fees which was a big plus for me in those days. Most NYC banks charge fees of some sort, nope not this BANK and no minimum either. Trust me, that's a plus these days.
