  A calming area to stay around in. Lots of things are going on, people having a good time, and there are restaurants nearby.

  Astor place may not be very well designed based on the plans and promises that were published however there is nothing wrong with the cube, it spins, it’s big, it looks interesting. People love it and I’m glad that it’s back. Also can someone please give it a sweater again.

  people fart here & so have you. no? liar. this area used to be a must-avoid for me bc of the crowd flow from all directions and the pungent scents of....you know what. all jokes aside, this area has gotten a dramatic makeover...curing much of the congestion and gassiness. YASSSSS! once a congregation point for suburban kids who pretended to be homeless and other posers made this area "spare-change-begging central" as well as a flatulence exchange. thankfully the city stepped in, gave the aforementioned the BROOM, redesigned the area, and reopened the area as a pedestrian plaza some seating and a more manicured look the art installation aka " the cube" is the central attraction for the area. i'd give you a brief history of it but that's what wikipedia is for...the more you know. "the cube" itself is a great people-watching spot during warmer months, great place to shoot a photo with the giant Hellraiser cube in the background, or you can gif tourists, students, etc. spinning the cube. oh yeah, the sculpture is physically interactive...one can spin it by pushing on its sides. you can't mix the big black metal box! there are tables and chairs put out for folks to sit down/eat/drink/etc. the tables are and chairs are removed in the evening. there are stone blocks that serve as benches. so there is a limited amount of seating, but turnover is fairly quick. aaand there's Astor Plate--a food/coffee stand is here. there are different food carts within a block radius of the cube. some of the stank-ness occasionally returns but those folks are quickly told to beat it bc the area is trying to reform from its gritty past. drops mic cuz i hate shouting about a public place that you should be taking advantage of...
