  Update- still amazing- I had an extremely gentle and sweet hygienist - thanks Nicky! Amazing experience- I can’t believe any other dentist has business when this place is here!! Top to bottom- making an appointment was easier than ordering Jimmy Johns. I have terrible anxiety about dentists and Dr. O’Loughlin made me want to come back! I generally don’t go to the dentist unless I have unbearable pain, but with her I feel so comfortable and taken care of I want to come back! She explains everything, is incredibly nice to her staff and even took my x-rays because they were short a hygienist!! She developed a treatment plan that works for me- usually they overwhelm you with all the things wrong with my teeth, but she was competent, straightforward and reasonable. Explained everything, and was very gentle in the exam. I cannot stop raving! If you have anxiety and are sick of seeing these dentists that make you feel like you’ve committed tooth murder every time you see them, go to Dr. O’Loughlin!!

  After an unpleasant experience with Emergency Tooth Doctor, I found 2nd & Madison very professional and efficient. I am very happy that I chose to switch, and I expect to stay.

  I prepaid for Invisalign up front in cash, completed approximately 3/4 of my treatment and had to move to another state. Dr. O'Loughlin and her practice were holding my last sets of trays hostage and are requiring me to transfer my case, upwards of $1,500. I've inquired with 6 other dentists in California and every one said what 2nd & Madison dental was doing is robbery. I do not recommend this practice. I do however, think the staff was very nice and the office environment was great.

  I had an absolutely awful experience at 2nd & Madison Dental and I would not recommend it to anyone. I had called to inquire about whether they had an orthodontist and could repair a permanent retainer and was told that they had a dentist on staff who could examine and perform orthodontic work. Dr. O'Loughlin is the only dentist on staff and as it turns out, is not an orthodontist and cannot perform routine repairs on retainers. Following my cleaning, I waited for approximately fifteen minutes to be seen by Dr.O'Loughlin. She took a look at my retainer and then immediately referred me to a local orthodontist. I shared that I was understandably frustrated and felt that I had been misled. I clarified both on the phone and when I walked in before my appointment that my first priority was having my retainer repaired and secondly was the cleaning. The front desk staff assured me that she would examine my retainer and could reglue it. After sharing this with her, she became very aggressive and defensive of her staff, telling me that her five front desk staff have worked with her for five years and would never have said that. She went so far as to yell out for her office manager Cassie, to come into the examining room while I was sitting in the chair. The office manager came in and said that she had taken my phone call and did not tell me that Dr. O'Loughlin could do orthodontic work, even though she most certainly did. I was absolutely appalled with their customer service and her complete lack of bedside manner. I couldn't believe she would call in her front desk staff (who obviously had misinformed or miscommunicated information to me) and continue to argue with me, the patient, and deny what I had been told. I was baffled and refused to say that it was any sort of "misunderstanding" on my part when I had been clearly told multiple times, by multiple staff that she could do these repairs. Not only that, but Dr. O'Loughlin had no idea where the orthodontist she supposedly has a great working partnership with was located in Portland and told me that it was my job as the patient to figure that out. I thought I had asked a simple question, so I could have a general idea of where the orthodontist is located and determine if I should need to find an orthodontist closer to where I live. She said she bikes everywhere and doesn't know where things are in Portland, which was incredibly strange to me that she would be unable to simply inform me of where the location is. I think this is an issue of inequity: assuming that I, the patient should be able to reasonably look up where the orthodontist is and that it would be no issue for me to get there. When I inquired whether there was an orthodontist downtown she could refer me to, she was dismissive and continued to claim that she had this great working relationship with an orthodontist which turns out is located in far South West Portland.Then to conclude the terrible interaction, Dr. O'Loughlin offered a free teeth bleaching session, "not that I needed it, but as a form of peacemaking" she said. It is likely that someone will reply to my review again stating that somehow this was my "misunderstanding." I never received an apology for the misinformation which led to me schedule an appointment under the impression that I would be able to have both my retainer repaired and a routine cleaning. I will not return to 2nd & Madison Dental and would not recommend it to anyone. I've never been treated so horribly at a dentist's office.

  Impeccable service, as well as the best cleaning I’ve ever had. They got every bit of plaque without hitting a single nerve. It was in and out with very straightforward billing. I definitely wouldn’t go anywhere else.
